Why don't our officials get it?
City officials, in their posturing and pandering, public relations plugs, offer lip service to the warm and fuzzy idea of supporting rural residents in these difficult times.
But if you compare the performative stance to what they actually do, we see something different.
In review of the official record, we see their concrete actions, as they blithely enact these onerous and unnecessary regulations and excessive conditions of approval.
They pile on these expensive, often purely subjective requirements, seemingly at never-ending whim.
Thus, our city officials appear intent on the actual opposite of their glowing words of support.
This is worse than benign neglect.
It almost seems an attempt to BLOCK peoples' efforts to take care of themselves and their families, on their own terms and on their own property.
Why don't our officials get it?
Rural home-based businesses are such an obvious "good" for the larger community and in so many ways.
They should be supported and encouraged with the same excited enthusiasm our Council shows when yet another monotonous franchise comes up for discussion!
